Expedition guides will be polar veterans John Huston and Harald Kippenes, a Norwegian who owns and operates Yourway Adventures & Expeditions. Harald and John have worked closely together since 2005 when they were teammates re-staging Roald Amundsen’s race to the South Pole for a BBC/History Channel film production.
DESCRIPTION
Svalbard, Norway is one of the true jewels of the Arctic, a mountainous archipelago located in the North Sea at 78°N. This ski tour will take place amidst the patient, long sunrises and sunsets of the high Arctic’s magical transition to spring. Beginning east of Longyearbaen, the scenic route features travel via stunning glaciers, mountain passes, and mountain-lined valleys and ends back in town. There is a chance of northern lights occurring. Temperatures could get down to –30°F or colder, but will likely be warmer. The possibility of extreme windstorms and polar bear encounters exist. Travel will be expedition style. Participants will sleep in tents and haul sleds with all the necessary gear and food.
ITINERARY
Day 1, March 16: Arrive in Longyearbaen, Svalbard, Norway.
Day 2-7, March 17-22: Expedition
Day 8, March 23: Depart from Longyearbaen, Svalbard, Norway
COST
Approximately $5,500 USD per person includes: lodging and food in Longyearbaen, expedition food, 2 expert guides, team equipment, permits, mechanized drop off at expedition start point. Cost does not include personal clothing and equipment, flights and travel expenses to Longyearbaen. Personal clothing and equipment can be provided at no extra cost or rented for additional cost on a case by case basis depending on the item and total number of items needed.
